Hi! I’m Dan Rinkus, and I’m passionate about storytelling and strategic communication. Currently, I’m Supervisor of External Accounts for Marketing and Strategic Communication at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) in Homestead, PA. In this role, I have the privilege of leading a team of Communication Specialists who serve more than a dozen school districts across Allegheny County and Western Pennsylvania. My journey into this role began in July 2024, after several rewarding years as an AIU Communications Specialist. In that time, I supported Sto-Rox School District and the AIU's Early Childhood, Family, and Community Services (ECFCS) division.
Transitioning to this role was a significant shift in my career, as I previously spent nearly 15 years immersed in the fast-paced world of local television news. From 2013 to 2022, I was a newscast producer at WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, PA, where I earned two Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards for Best Newscast (2019, 2020), among other accolades. Before that, I cut my teeth in the industry as a newscast producer at WFMZ-TV in Allentown, PA, from 2008 to 2013.
Now I bring that same dedication and passion for clear and impactful communication to my work at the AIU, where I’m excited to contribute to the educational landscape in meaningful ways. Outside of work, I’m a proud Pittsburgh resident, living with my partner and our two (very good) dogs.
